The complete archive
Episodes
Welcome to the complete Filmmaker Commentary archive — every episode of the show in one place, ungated and unpaginated.
Hosted by Reginald Titus Jr. and co-hosted by Casey G. Smith, Filmmaker Commentary is a weekly deep-dive into the craft of cinema. Each episode dissects a single film through its director’s commentary track, treating those tracks not as trivia but as primary sources — the closest thing we have to a working filmmaker thinking out loud about their own choices. From Aronofsky’s split-screen rhythm to Fincher’s obsession with takes, from Ridley Scott’s worldbuilding to Rodriguez’s digital experiments, the goal is the same: understand what great filmmakers actually do behind the camera, in their own words.
Episodes run one to two hours. We cover the film, the commentary track, the technical decisions, the production constraints, and what working filmmakers can learn from each. Additional guests will join occasionally when their expertise sharpens the conversation.
Browse the catalog below — chronologically, by director, or by genre. Every episode page includes show notes, key moments with timestamps, gear and films mentioned, listener Q&A, and a full transcript. New episodes drop every Monday.
